About Us

Madison Family Farms is a nonprofit organization that works to enhance and improve small family farms and the agricultural business climate in Madison and surrounding counties by providing basic facilities and services, information and education, marketing and public relations.

Madison Farms was created as a collaboration between Madison County farmers and Cooperative Extension in 2006 in reponse to the aftermath of the 2005 Tobacco Buyout. Madison Farms was founded as a resource for farmers who were transitioning from tobacco to a wide variety of crops.

During peak season, hospitals, grocery stores, restaurants and colleges buy the high-quality produce and meats that are raised by Madison County farmers and packaged and processed at the Madison Farms Value-Added Center. As well, area school systems purchase Madison Farms goods through a well-established Farm-to-School program. In the off-season, farmers have access to a licensed kitchen where they transform their products into shelf-stable goods to sell year round.

Together, Madison Farms and Madison County farmers are working to preserve family farms and promote a local economy.

About The Website

Madison Farms was created thanks to grants provided in large part by GoldenLEAF and the Rural Internet Access Authority.  This site's purpose is to provide information to consumers and tourists about Madison County farms, create and maintain a list of farms operating in the county, provide farmers with Web marketing tools, and encourage the use of technology and e-commerce. This site was built by the Madison County Agri-Business Center, NC Cooperative Extension, and Duke Endowment.

There are 1500 small family farms in Madison County.  Approximately 100 of Madison's family farms are currently featured on this site.

On this site you will find farms specializing in all types of breeds of horses, mules, donkeys, goats, cattle, rabbits, chickens, dogs, and llamas.  Madison farms are also rich in value-added products such as cheeses, milk, jams, jellies, molasses, Christmas wreaths and garland and fiber (such as yarns and knitted fabrics).  You can also find organic brick oven baked bread.

Thanks for visiting our site.  Come back and visit often.
